Best White Wine: 3 Unique Selections from the Coravin Wine Shop

July 27, 2022

Written By Coravin

Chardonnay. Pinot Gris. Sauvignon Blanc. Those are just some of the white wines you might know and love. The Coravin Wine Shop is chalk full of Chardonnays from the likes of Hertelendy, Duckhorn, Iron Horse, and Kistler, Sauvignon Blanc from Medlock Ames and Aquilini, then Pinot Gris from Domaine Weinbach. If you love any of those, you’ll love to try three special selections from the Coravin Wine Shop – two from California and one from Australia.

2018 Le Artishasic Vin Clair Cuvée No. 1

First up is the 2018 Le Artishasic Vin Clair Cuvée No. 1 by Wine XYZ. This deceptively complex medium-bodied white blend is made with Albariño, Arneis, Tocai Friulano, and Chardonnay grapes. Inspired by the food-friendly wines from the Spanish region of Rias Baixas and the Northern Italian region of Alto Adige, this wine has aromas of vanilla and honeysuckle, with flavors like peach, pear, nectarine, and green apple. It’s clean, crisp, and refreshing style pairs well with fresh seafood, grilled vegetables, cream soup, and ceviche. Grown and harvested in California, only 144 cases of this wine were made.

2019 Dandelion Vineyards Riesling Enchanted Garden of the Eden Valley

We head over to Australia for a refreshing, citrus-forward Riesling. The 2019 Dandelion Vineyards Riesling Enchanted Garden of the Eden Valley is pale gold in color and perfumed with lime, citrus zest, lemon juice, and rock salt. On the palate this wine is very dry with intense, ripe citrus notes and plenty of acidity.

The vine these grapes were harvested from are over 100-years-old and the wine was aged 10 months in stainless steel before bottling. Only 1,000 cases were made and the Coravin Wine Shop is lucky enough to have a  few.

2019 Tablas Creek Esprit de Tablas Blanc

Now back to the United States, California specifically, for our third wine – the 2019 Tablas Creek Esprit de Tablas Blanc. This vintage is a unique blend of four grapes – 63% Roussanne, 20% Grenache Blanc, 14% Picpoul Blanc, and 3% Picardan. These four estate-grown varietals were propagated from budwood cuttings from the Château de Beaucastel estate, a historic winery located in the southern part of the Rhône valley in France. Château de Beaucastel is also the parent company of Tablas Creek Vineyard, adding that layer of history and credibility.

Roussanne grapes provide the core richness, minerality, and flavors of honey and spice, while Grenache Blanc adds green apple and anise flavors, a lush mouthfeel, and bright acids. Picpoul Blanc adds pineapple brightness and saline minerality, while Picardan brings a touch of elegance. On the nose, the wine smells of wildflower honey, sweet baking spices, and citrus pith (the white part between the skin and fruit).

What’s great is that this Esprit de Tablas Blanc drinks well now, but will also shine with time in the cellar – up to two decades from now.

Use your Coravin wine by the glass system to try these three unique whites, then save the rest of the bottle for months, even years (if you can hold out that long).
