World’s Largest Virtual Wine Tasting

A big thank you to everyone who joined our quest to host the World’s Largest Virtual Wine Tasting event! We are thrilled and humbled to report that 9,416 participants from around the world came together over our shared passion for wine. As a result, we were able to meet our maximum donation of $50,000 to the James Beard Foundation Food and Beverage Industry Relief Fund. Missed the event? For a few short hours, we set out to unite people across the globe through a common passion for wine, providing an escape from the COVID-19 climate and paying tribute to our friends and colleagues in the food and beverage industry. We tapped into master sommeliers, winemakers, influencers and educators from around the world to help host this unique Facebook Live event, and participants joined from virtually all corners of the globe, including the United States, Spain, France, Italy, Croatia, Netherlands, Argentina, Dominican Republic and Australia.

For every person that joined the Facebook Live event, we donated $20 to benefit the James Beard Foundation Relief Fund, which resulted in the full $50,000 donation being made! To continue showing our support, we are working with Brands x Better to donate 10% of all purchases made on using the code BrandsBetter to the Relief Fund. Consumers also receive 10% off their purchase when they use the code.

    Peter Granoff was the 15th American to earn the coveted title Master Sommelier and is one of the 18 Americans to date that have earned the Krug Champagne Cup by passing all three parts of the exam on the first attempt. In 1991 Peter also received the James Beard Foundation Sommelier of the year Award. Since then, Peter has added the roles of wine educator, entrepreneur, consultant and photographer to his repertoire. After launching Virtual Vineyards with his brother-in-law and pioneering the online sale of wine in the US, Peter is now co-proprietor for 3 esteemed gourmet shops in San Francisco, including Ferry Plaza Wine Merchant & Wine Bar, Oxbow Cheese & Wine Merchant, and Mission Bay Wine & Cheese.

    Lucas is an independent consultant and ambassador working in collaboration with several world-class firms dedicated to wine, beverage and culinary culture. Early in his professional career, Lucas joined elBulli restaurant in 2002 to lead the sommelier team. Lucas also spearheaded the launch of Coravin in Spain. In 2016, Lucas created the Certified Sherry Wine Specialist program (CSWS). Since 2017, the CSWS courses have educated more than 3,250 people across the US and Canada. He holds a Diploma from the Wine & Spirit Education Trust and is a Certified Sherry Educator by the Sherry Council.

    After graduating from the high school specializing in classical studies, Federico chose to take a University Diploma in Business Administration. While studying, he entered into the heart of what was to be his profession, beginning to deal with the management of Ceretto and also keeping tabs – in his “free time” – on the sales network in Italy, supporting agents on visits to clients. Now, he is the export manager for Ceretto and President of Relanghe, the new activity of the family that promotes Piemonte hazelnuts. Federico is married and father of a daughter, Alma Sofia, born in 2010 and a son, Tommaso, born in 2015.

    After studying literature, economics, and communication at the Sorbonne (CELSA), Véronique Sanders began her career as a consultant with Publicis in Prague and Paris. In order to improve her understanding of wine, she obtained the DUAD (University Diploma in Wine Tasting Aptitude) from the University of Bordeaux. When her grandfather, Jean Sanders, sold Château Haut-Bailly, Robert G. Wilmers asked her to stay on and manage the estate. She thus achieved a childhood dream thanks to this tremendous opportunity to be in charge of a prestigious classified growth. Véronique is married to Alexander van Beek, and the couple have a son.

    Andrea Robinson, one of only 26 women in the world to hold the title of Master Sommelier, was the first woman to be named Best Sommelier in the United States and first American woman to compete in the Concours Mondial des Sommeliers. She is the author of four top-selling books on wine and food, a 3-time James Beard Award winner, award-winning lifestyle television host, and creator with her husband John of a game-changing line of wine stemware called The ONE. Having created innovative and award-winning wine and education programs for fine dining restaurants, Starwood Hotels and as a Dean of the International Culinary Center culinary school in New York City (of which she is a chef graduate), Andrea now curates Delta Air Lines’ wine program (since 2007), consults to Norwegian Cruise Line, and since 2006, grows fine wine grapes in the Napa Valley.
